Critical Art Society — Phase One

For art with
a human trace.

A quiet studio for serious artists. No likes. No algorithm. No performance. Just your process — documented, protected, yours.

The problem

You've been given
two options.
Neither works.

The gallery world — opaque, gatekept, slow to change. A system that decides whose work matters before it's seen.

The social media world — fast, loud, built on performance and approval. A treadmill that rewards speed over seriousness.

Neither was designed for the actual work of making.

And somewhere in between, the thing that matters most — the process, the doubt, the revision, the decision, the time — gets lost.

What CAS is

A studio,
not a stage.

CAS is a minimalist digital studio where artists respond to briefs, document their process and build a record of how their work came to be.

Not a portfolio. Not a feed. Not a marketplace.
A place to work — and to prove the work was yours.

01
Monthly

The Brief

Each month, CAS publishes one creative brief. You respond in your own time, your own medium, your own way. No brief is wrong. No response is too small.

02
Private by default

The Process Log

As you work, log it. A sketch. A note. A moment of doubt. A breakthrough. Over time, these entries become a record — proof that the work was made with time, care and intention.

03
Mid-process · Anonymous

The Crit Circle

Submit your work-in-progress — not the finished piece — for anonymous peer critique. Guided by the art school crit framework most of us lost when we left education. Responses arrive in your inbox and are logged directly into your process record. The conversation becomes part of the work.

04
Curated

The Zine

Selected work is published each month in the CAS digital zine — a curated, editorial space for process-led art. No algorithm decides what appears. We do.

For when it stops

Blocked is not
broken.

Block is part of the process. CAS doesn't ignore it or gamify your way past it. When you can't move forward, one button surfaces a single prompt — a small re-entry point back into the work. Whatever you do with it gets logged. The block becomes part of the record too.

I'm blocked —
"Make something using only what is already in the room with you right now."

Each prompt is logged to your process record.
